Devour opens April 1

 

Eating local does not have to mean expensive.

Victoria, B.C (March 11, 2009) – Chefs Alison Bigg and Jena Stewart introduce local eat-in and takeout gastronomy at fair and palate-piqueing ungastronomical prices. Devour, Located at 762 Broughton, opens April 1st. Devour will serve breakfasts, lunches, early evening fare and weekend brunch. They will offer take home meals, along with delicious and impeccably crafted stocks, demis, chutneys and more.

“People still want to eat out; they just don’t want to spend as much. I can appreciate that. I feel the same way,” shares Alison. But Devour is more than just “another” bistro. Jena’s resume includes the Agora Restaurant at the AGO in Toronto, creating menu concepts reflecting art exhibits, Philadelphia’s critically acclaimed Django Restaurant and Sooke Harbour House, to name a few. Alison is a self-taught chef with a history that includes exclusive private catering, cooking for tree planting crews and foraging for chanterelles and other wild edibles in the forest. The pair met at Truffles Catering where they hatched their plan. 

Breakfast? Maybe Savory Brioche French toast stuffed with Sharp Cheese and Prosciutto served with homemade preserves. Perhaps Espresso and Callebaut Chocolate Shards swirled in Puff Pastry. Lunch? Claypot Duck and Great White North White Bean Cassoulet or a Savory Tart with Sweet Roasted Cherry Tomatoes and Buffalo Mozzarella. If you prefer something lighter, the Fava Beans with Frissee and Pecorino, Smoked Almonds  and Housemade Mustard Vinny is an option.

It will be easy to Devour, with lunch prices ranging from $5-$12. Alison and Jena are committed to local produce and seasonal offerings that are also financially sustainable to their guests and to the environment. Devour is licensed and open for early evening beverages before you take something home for dinner.
